Horror Story Part 3

You feel goose bumps all over your body and you try to prevent yourself from shaking. You think about reality and reasoning, ghosts don’t exist and this has an easy explanation. The footprints might be your mind playing tricks on you or they are old. You move the light again to see that the footprints start at the window and move out of the room to your left. You blink and look back and forth realizing that the footprints start at the window, so how come there are no prints leading to the window.

You swallow again and start to get nervous but your pride and curiosity get the better of you. Swinging the light you check the ceiling on a hunch, nothing, somehow you thought you might see footprints up there too. You smirk to yourself and step into the room watching the doorway. The air is thick and has an unpleasant odor but you can’t place it. You adjust the backpack on your shoulders, up until this point you’d forgotten you’d even had it. You swing it around and remove the camera, checking the flash you take a few shots of the floor and the prints.

Trying to hold the flashlight and the camera takes some dexterity but you manage. You slip the camera over your neck using the lanyard and prepare to move farther into the house. The doorway leads into an entrance hall type room. Directly in front of you is a staircase leading to the second floor and to the right is the front door. You second-guess your choice to shine the light up toward the second floor; if anyone else were there they’d see it.

A creak causing you to jump and your heart skips a beat, it isn’t a pleasant feeling and you quickly start to sweat. You move the light around franticly at first but soon steady out and notice a door that presumably leads to the basement. Beyond that looks to be another room or perhaps it’s just another way into the kitchen? Before you can make a decision as to which room to explore next you hear a creaking sound followed by a slam. You jump again but instinctively move back and look into the kitchen, as you thought the door you pried open had slammed shut. As you take a step forward you hear a familiar moaning sound.

You spin moving the light toward the stairs, it sounded like it came from upstairs but it also sounded like the same noise as when you were prying the backdoor open, perhaps its just the wind. You wonder if you should secure the backdoor first preventing it from slamming again and perhaps jamming shut in case of a hasty exit or maybe you are just over-reacting and should check the rest of the house as you intended before the interruption.

Weighing each possibility in your mind you unconsciously begin to crank the flashlight. Above you the floor creaks, this time you aren’t moved, however the creaking doesn’t stop. It sounds like someone is walking slowly across the room upstairs.
